This page explains which cookies symphony.boardwalktech.com and the Symphony account service (symphonyams.boardwalktech.com) set, what each one does, and how to change your mind. Short version: one cookie remembers your choice, a few measure how the site is used, and a few more are set only if you allow advertising.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. Some are essential for a site to work; others measure usage or support advertising. Cookies can be first-party (set by the site you're visiting) or third-party (set by another company's service running on the site). Everything below is listed by who sets it and why.
Strictly necessary
These are set regardless of your choice, because the site cannot honour your choice without them.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| sym_consent | Symphony (first-party, .boardwalktech.com) | Records whether you allowed analytics and/or advertising cookies, so we don't ask again and so the account service can honour the same choice. | 12 months |
The account service also sets a session cookie while you are signed in to manage seats. It is deleted when you close the browser and is not used for tracking.
Analytics (only if you allow it)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read, where visitors come from, and how many reach the subscribe page. IP addresses are anonymised. We do not use analytics data to identify individuals.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics (first-party) | Distinguishes one visitor from another with a random ID. | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics (first-party) | Keeps track of the current session for this property. | 2 years |
If you decline analytics, Google Analytics still runs but sends only cookieless, aggregated pings that cannot be tied to you. This is Google's "consent mode" behaviour.
Advertising (only if you allow it)
If you allow advertising cookies, we may use Google Ads to measure whether an ad brought you here and, if you visited without subscribing, to show you a Symphony ad on other sites (called remarketing). We never share your name, email or anything you typed with an ad network.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | Google Ads (first-party) | Links a click on a Google ad to a later action on this site, so we know which ads work. | 90 days |
| IDE | Google / DoubleClick (third-party, doubleclick.net) | Used by Google to show you relevant ads on other websites. | 13 months |
| test_cookie | Google / DoubleClick (third-party) | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies. | 15 minutes |
Google's own description of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Changing your choice
Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page, or the button at the top of this page. Your new choice takes effect immediately and applies to both the marketing site and the account service. Withdrawing consent stops new cookies being set; to remove cookies already stored, clear them in your browser.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, and manage ad personalisation across Google services at adssettings.google.com.
What we don't do
We don't sell personal data. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies to identify you by name. We don't set social-media tracking pixels. We don't load ads on this site.
